THE INSIDERS POST SHOW PRESS CONFERENCE JULY 8TH
Things are getting interesting folks. In the next two weeks the amount of news that is going to come out regarding the College Football season is going to turn our heads like a high wind gust whipping up in West Fargo. What we learned today on the show:
- The Ivy League is planning on moving all Fall Sports to the Spring which obviously includes Football. Many believe this will have a trickle down effect on some programs. I think you could see the Patriot League moving Football to the Spring with the Ivys. I don’t believe the Power 5 looks at this and bats an eye. There’s nothing on the field that connects The Ivy League and Power 5 CFB. It wouldn’t shock me if the Pioneer Football League has a tough time playing in the Fall as well. A conference that stretches from San Diego to upstate New York to the Carolinas in a time where we need to be playing as regionally as possible? Seems far fetched to me.
- Following the show, the rumor mill has begun with the Power 5 schools in CFB: a 10 game conference only season in the big conferences in College Football. Some leagues are asking if they can play a regional non-league home game as well. Still waiting to hear more on this, but we could have more news regarding this aspect sooner rather than later. Would make a non-conference game out of area tough to have. If NDSU is unable to play Oregon, would there be the possibility that Minnesota would pick up the phone and play the Bison on Sept 5th to fill a spot for a regional non-conference game?
- Could this be the year that the FCS changes things up? To me, the FCS is at three tiers right now:
THE HAVES-Schools like NDSU, JMU, Montana, Montana State, UNI, and SDSU………places where money has been invested into football and the schools need football to happen to be in a good place financially in years to come.
THE SORT OFS-Schools that value football but don’t necessarily make a ton of money off of the program. Basketball schools in a lot of instances where there has been success playing football.
THE HAVE NOTS-Schools that wouldn’t mind missing the season because they don’t make any money off football and have very little fan interest
Would the Commissioners for the MVFC, Big Sky, and CAA come together and discuss options for The Haves in FCS CFB to play in the Fall and find some form or a regional scheduling plan of 10 games to try and keep everything as whole as possible? It may be too late for this to happen. But we need to find out who wants to play football and who doesn’t in the FCS. If you don’t want to play and sit this season out, that’s fine, but the teams that are all in need to know now. Very shortly, we’re going to find out who is going to jump all in on the 2020 CFB season and how the bracket could be affected.
Even though there are no events for now, the news cycle is going to hit warp speed over the next few weeks. Keep it locked in to Bison 1660 for all the updates.
