FARGO, N.D. – Quarterback Cam Miller tied a school record with five rushing touchdowns and No. 4-ranked North Dakota State rolled to a 42-21 victory over 16th-ranked North Dakota in the Harvest Bowl on Saturday, Nov. 19, before a crowd of 18,806 at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome.
Miller had a career-high 16 carries and 93 yards on the ground and went 8-for-12 passing for 159 yards including a career-long 76-yard passing play to DJ Hart, one of five receivers to catch passes for the Bison.
NDSU finished the regular season 9-2 overall and placed second in the Missouri Valley Football Conference with a 7-1 record. UND finished 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
The Bison scored on their second offensive play of the game with TaMerik Williams running 51 yards for a touchdown. Miller scored from 4, 7 and 3 yards as NDSU opened a 28-7 lead.
UND closed within 28-14 at halftime on quarterback Tommy Schuster’s only touchdown pass of the game, an 18-yard play to Garrett Maag with 6 seconds left before the break. Schuster was 11 of 19 passing for 153 yards.
Miller added TD runs from 5 and 30 yards in the third quarter to earn a share of the school record with Paul Hatchett (1968, 1969), Mark Speral (1977) and Kevin Feeney (1996).
Cornerback Destin Talbert and linebacker Luke Weerts each made seven tackles to lead the Bison. Linebacker James Kaczor and defensive end Spencer Waege each had one sack and finished with five tackles apiece.
The bracket for the 24-team NCAA Division I Football Championship will be announced on ESPNU beginning at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 20.
