FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State women’s basketball head coach Jory Collins has announced the addition of two players on signing day.
Claire Stern and Marisa Frost will join the Bison in the fall of 2024.
“Both Claire and Marisa have played high level high school and AAU basketball,” said Collins. “They will have shorter adjustment periods as freshman. What’s great about them is they both have been committed for over a year. I love it when it’s a great fit for the players, families, and obviously our program. Adding more regional talent to our roster is a plus and I think both these young ladies will have great careers at NDSU. ”
Stern is a four-year letterwinner at Maple Grove Senior High School and averaged 9.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game in her junior season. The 6-0 forward is the sixth-rated prospect in Minnesota on prepgirlshoops.com and was an All-Conference selection in her junior season. The Maple Grove, Minn., native helped her team to back-to-back conference championships and section runner up appearances in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.
“Claire is a 6-0 athlete with tons of upside,” said Collins. “I could see her playing anywhere from the two to the four for us with her ability to score inside and out. She will be very switchable defensively as she can guard multiple positions at a high level. She has a tremendous feel for the game and sees the floor extremely well. Claire is a great worker and fits our recent mold of length and versatility.”
Frost is a four-year letterwinner at Centennial High School and averaged 15.8 points, 2.3 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game in her junior season. The 5-9 point guard is the ninth-rated prospect in Minnesota on prepgirlshoops.com and is also ranked as the 229th best prospect on Dan Olson’s Collegiate Girls Basketball Report. The Lino Lakes, Minn., native was a two-time All-Conference selection and helped her team win sections in her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons.
“Marisa is a left-handed point guard and we’ve watched her play for years,” said Collins. “She has the ability to score at a high level and also has terrific court vision and awareness. She’s the kind of point guard you really enjoy playing with. Marisa can pressure the ball and plays with a great toughness and grit that I really admire.”
NDSU will be back in action hosting Jamestown on Thursday night. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m., at Scheels Center.
