After coming off another National Championship season in 2021 the NDSU football program was already going to have one new starting linebacker in the 2022 season with the graduation of Jackson Hankey who was the starting middle linebacker. Now NDSU will have two openings at linebacker this offseason as Jasir Cox has decided to enter the transfer portal.
Cox announced Wednesday on his Twitter account that he has decided to enter the transfer portal and potentially move on from NDSU.
First & foremost I am blessed & thankful to be apart of a tremendous program. Thanks to Coach Entz, my teammates, staff, & the NDSU community. #OnceABison. With that being said, I will be entering the transfer portal. Thank you for supporting me chasing my dreams 🕊 pic.twitter.com/XSlwKiCMg4

Cox has been at NDSU for four seasons and had the option to return for a fifth year because of the covid season that didn’t count towards eligibility. Cox has decided to transfer instead similar to what his older brother Jabril did after the 2019 season when Jabril transferred to LSU for his fifth year.
Jasir started the past two seasons for the Bison defense and in 2021 he had 58 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and 3 interceptions.
Cox could still return to NDSU if he chooses to after entering the transfer portal. Most likely the Bison will now have to replace two starters in the linebacker core going into the 2022 season and it will definitely be a talking point going into the spring season.
